The history of Jewish sport and the sport of Jews in Germany was and still is a marginal topic of sport-historical and general-historical research. This could not be disguised by the great response from the specialist scientific community and the media to the international symposium ‘Jewish Sport and Jewish Society’, which took place over ten years ago in October 1998 at the House of the Wannsee Conference Memorial and Educational Centre in Berlin. It was during this symposium that the idea was born to record and systematise the contributions to the history of Jewish sport in Germany and to make them available to a wider academic audience in the form of a bibliography for further teaching and research purposes.
