In their critique of essentialist models of identity, space, and culture, such studies of postmigration draw particularly on concepts from postcolonial theory, such as mimicry (Bhabha), the Third Space (Bhabha), strategic essentialism (Spivak), and hybridity (García Canclini; Bhabha).
But how are postcolonialism and postmigration related? To what extent do concepts from postcolonial theory change when they are applied in postmigrant approaches? Conversely, what can postcolonial theory gain from discourses on the postmigrant? Where do both concepts reach their limits? Through theoretical contributions and case studies, this book explores the relationship between these two concepts.
