Rechts, wo die Mitte ist - Buch

Since its foundation, the ‘Alternative for Germany’ has developed from a small right-wing populist anti-euro party into the largest far-right political force in Germany since the end of National Socialism. It now represents an openly racist, nationalist and anti-feminist programme, while historical revisionism and anti-Semitism are also an integral part of its agenda. The more nationalist the AfD appears, the more its social support seems to grow. At the same time, there is a progressive normalisation of the party and its far-right positions in the media and politics. In terms of refugee policy, the AfD has long dominated the political discourse, even without government participation.

The AfD's success must be seen in the context of the societal shift to the right that has been ongoing for several years, as a result of which right-wing authoritarian attitudes are spreading far into the so-called middle classes. This book brings together various analyses of the AfD and paints a picture of a party that is exemplary of modernised right-wing extremism, which appears modern but is by no means less dangerous than its historical predecessors.
