The musician ‘FaulenzA’ uses her personal experiences to describe discrimination against trans*women and gives suggestions for more sensitivity and support:
She explains trans*misogyny as a combination of hostility towards femininity, trans hostility, classism and ableism and focuses on how she also experiences this in the feminist and queer scene. Trans* women are often met with scepticism, rejection and discomfort. They are under pressure to prove that they are not cis men, are often not accepted as a natural part of the feminist movement and their perspectives are not seen. Some women's spaces/FLT*I* spaces openly exclude trans*women, in others they experience exclusion in more subtle ways. Trans*women are said to be ‘socialised as men’, which FaulenzA exposes as a nonsensical and discriminatory argument. Other topics include ‘Trans*misogyny in the media’ and the ‘Trans*gender Day of Remembrance’. In the second part of the book, FaulenzA gives a number of examples, from ‘tail off feminism’ to ‘menstrual envy’, which show how trans*women are excluded and discriminated against through biologistic views. Intentionally and unintentionally.
